01 Jun “Refill My Bottle” Initiative, Bali
Traditionally, the Balinese people used only organic materials, leaving only organic waste behind.
However, the introduction of plastics, rapid growth and globalisation left no time for locals to learn sustainable ways of handling plastic waste. Sadly much plastic waste now pollutes waterways and the oceans of Indonesia.
Fortunately, a community of mindful business owners have joined forces to combat the plastic waste problems in Indonesia, teaming up to create a network of water refill stations.
The RefillMyBottle website and mobile app displays nearby locations where you can refill your water bottles for free or a minimum fee.
Initially starting in Bali, the initiative is a great showcase of the tourist industry making a commitment to preserving Bali’s ecosystem.
Keep your eye out for RefillMyBottle stickers in the windows of shops, cafes, galleries and other businesses, so you can play your part in reducing plastic waste.
